What everyone said is true. I have mine since Nov 2002. A few reference point for everyone:
1. Yes, it is ugly.
2. Yes, the sound is great.
3. Yes, the construction is bit shoddy, i.e. the jack-in where the headphone jack goes in kinda of crack the case open.
4. Yes, the battery seems to go on and on in one charge.
5. Yes, the operating system on the unit is weird but you will get used to it.
6. Yes, (not many mentioned this one) the software on the PC side only work in English version of Windows!! Be aware.
7. Yes, the LCD display only works in English, i.e. if your song title is other language than English, you are screwed.
8. Yes, the customer support is really really really bad -- virtually no support. And the warranty is only 180 days!!! So the summary said it all, it is all luck -- you can get a bad unit. My unit already show problems and aI don't even get to use it that often. The problem is that the LCD screen sometimes have no display when it is turned on. I have to take the battery out, put itback in, and turn it on and off a few times and then the display might work again. So if the above still works for you, then this unit is a great value! I took this unit to Asia where I work now I am crossing my finger everyday hoping that it doesn't break on me, with all those problems I mentioned. If it breaks, I think it will be the LCD. Hm... I wonder if the hard drive can be used in a notebook computer???? Then it wouldn't be a bad deal after all. Oh, the USB is kind of slow and the cable is not standard.
